The KODA Religion

The ‘KODA Religion’ embodies the esteemed teachings of the Lamaholot ancestors, centered on the belief in Alapet Rera Wulan Tana Ekan (the Divine). This indigenous faith system elucidates the intricate relationships between humanity and the Divine, among individuals, and between humanity and the entire cosmos and its contents.

This ancient and unique belief system is adhered to by the Ata Lamaholot people and has been passed down through generations via koda. These oral traditions consist of sequences of words and sentences that convey messages and profound wisdom.

Consequently, the Lamaholot community lives by the principle of ‘moripet di koda, matanet di koda’, signifying that their lives and deaths are intrinsically guided by the koda.
